Alex Albon and Jost Capito

Alex Albon joined F1 back in 2019 as a driver for Scuderia Torro Rosso (now known as AlphaTauri). After competing with the team for half a season, the British Thai driver was promoted to Red Bull racing due to his sensational results on track. However, after racing with the Bulls for a season and a half, the team decided to demote him to the role of a reserve driver for the 2021 season.

The team chose to replace Alex Albon with Sergio Perez with the former not being able to put in the performances that were expected from him. Albon further went on to sit out for the whole of the 2021 season as there was no other seat available on the grid. With George Russell being promoted to Mercedes, a seat suddenly became available for the 2022 season at Williams Racing and the Ex-Red Bull athlete wasn’t gonna miss out on this opportunity.

Alex Albon joined Williams Racing and managed to impress after scoring points for the team in his third ever race with them. He furthermore went on to put in some impressive performances to cement his spot in the team. However, all this wouldn’t have been possible without Jost Capito who was the team principal for Williams Racing duties that period of time.

In an interview with Gp Blog, here is what he had to say. “Obviously I like Jost [Capito] very much, we had a great relationship together, he was the person who brought me back into the sport. The experience James now brings hopefully can pull things forward and increase the evolution of the car. Let’s see if we can make some short term progress of course, but also long term,” he stated.

Alex Albon will be partnered up with F1 rookie Logan Sargeant for the 2023 F1 season. Along with that, Williams Racing has also come under the leadership of Ex Mercedes head James Vowles who will be the team principal. Overall, it seems like Williams has made great progress over the years and has hired the right people to focus on their resurgence for the future that dawns upon us.
