Formula 1 is mostly famous for its dashing, super-fast young racers who have a penchant for adventure and an affinity for otherworldly speed. While most of the drivers on the F1 grid are in their twenties and thirties, Fernando Alonso has broken the age stereotype by going at it at the age of 41. A close look at the driver-lineup for the upcoming 2023 will show that some of the racers, such as Logan Sargeant, Yuki Tsunoda, and Oscar Piastri have all just stepped into their 20s as they were born after 2000.

In the year 2001, when Oscar Piastri had not even been born, Fernando Alonso had already made his Formula 1 debut on March 4–and now, the two of them will be racing against each other. Alonso has managed to keep up his strength, zeal and need for speed through all these years–and former F1 racer Romain Grosjean finds that quite fascinating. The Frenchman talked about how Fernando Alonso goes headfirst into every practice, every Qualifying, and every race with the same energy, as if he were a 22-year-old.

In the upcoming season, Fernando Alonso will be seen in his Aston Martin overalls as he will fill up Sebastian Vettel’s place in the British outfit. He had announced his move right after Seb shocked the F1 community with his retirement news. Thus, at 41, Alonso will be seen in a new team, with a new teammate, going for the win once again–and Romain Grosjean believes he will put it the same enthusiasm into this process that he would have given if he were racing in his 20s.

Romain Grosjean debates whether Fernando Alonso’s move to Aston Martin will be a success or a failure

Romain Grosjean and Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso’s shift to Aston Martin will see the Spaniard taking part in the British team’s vision to capture the front of the grid. Debating on whether Alonso will be successful in helping AMR realise their goals, Romain Grosjean said on his YouTube channel, “I love his attitude, on-track dedication and his engagement to drive. He’s 40 plus years old, but he drives like he’s 22. Every session, every lap, every practice he’s full on. He’s going for it, and I’m excited to see him at Aston Martin and what the challenge could be.”

He also said, “Is it going to be a success or is it going to be a failure? We’ve seen Alonso changing a lot of teams through the years. Not always for the best, but I’m truly hoping he’s going to get a good car and give us some of the performances that he’s able to do.”

Thus, in the upcoming season, fans will be excited to see Fernando Alonso in his new avatar as he will gear up for the win with Aston Martin. Another driver who is going to shift teams for next year is Pierre Gasly, who will joining a team that is not under the Red Bull umbrella for the first time since his F1 debut in 2017. Now it remains to be seen which racer finally gets the win over the other in F1 2023, which is set to start from March 7.
