“He has done a fantastic job in the car”: Fred Vasseur has commended Valtteri Bottas for his performance in Alfa Romeo

Valtteri Bottas will debut for Alfa Romeo in 2022

Just like Rubens Barichello to Michael Schumacher, Mark Webber to Sebastian Vettel, and Damon Hill to Alain Prost, there have been many driver pairs in the vast history of Formula 1 where the second driver has seemingly been always overshadowed by the first driver because of the huge success of the latter. And in recent times, we have seen the same dynamics going on between former teammates Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

All through his tenure at Mercedes, Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas had never been able to win the World Championship even though his teammate Lewis Hamilton, with the same car, maintained his streak of winning the Championship titles from 2017 to 2020. It was quite evident Mercedes were preferring Hamilton to Bottas when it came to winning the races.

But now that Bottas’ contract with Mercedes has ended, and Geroge Russell has taken his place in the Silver Arrows, Valtteri Bottas has joined Alfa Romeo to drive alongside Guanyu Zhou.

Alfa Romeo team principal Fred Vasseur declared that he has found the perfect team driver in Valtteri Bottas. The Finn has already scored some precious Championship points for the team, and in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy, he stood P5, surpassing his old teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Alfa Romeo Chief Frederick Vasseur knows that Valtteri Bottas’ contribution towards their team has played a major role in their 5th rank in the World Constructors’ Championship table. He said, “The input of the driver is not only with the car. For sure, in the car, if you have a look, for me, he has done the perfect job from the start of the season.

We had an issue at the start at the first race [in Bahrain] but that was because we had a huge lack of mileage over the winter but he has done a fantastic job in the car.

But his value for the team is much more outside of the car.
