Red Bull and Dr Helmut Marko had theirs eyes on Max Verstappen ever since he was racing in karts. However, they were never able to sign him. After the Dutchman started competing in F3, he had gotten two offers in the end from Mercedes and Red Bull. Max went on to choose Red Bull as they gave him an immediate seat in F1 with Torro Rosso. Ever since then, it’s been a magical journey for all the parties associated.
The 2023 Canadian GP was yet another dominant performance by the cloud of thunder that is Max Verstappen. The Dutchmann started alongside Fernando Alonso and sprung off the line to get a great start. He led the race from lights out to the checkered flag. Even though he struck a bird who was in his brake ducts for a while during the race, he still finished 10 seconds ahead of second place.
He has also broken the 200 barrier for no. of consecutive laps led in F1. It was an extremely special day for Red Bull as Max Verstappen got them their 100th victory while also matching Ayrton Senna’s record of 41 career wins. This was a very big achievement from the Dutch superstar. Dr Helmut Marko went on to talk about how he has been proven right after comparing Max and Senna at the start.

In an interview, here is what he had to say. “A few years ago, I compared Max to Senna and was ridiculed. Slowly, the know-it-alls from back then are running out of arguments,” he said. “Max has not only developed tremendously as a driver but also as a personality. The incredible qualifying lap he delivered in Monaco comes close to Senna. Max is the best under all conditions,” he told Austrian publication OE24.
Max Verstappen has gone on to win 6 out of the 8 races so far this season. With the other two being won by Sergio Perez, it is clear that the Red Bull is an absolute beast. Many drivers on the grid have a feeling that Res Bull will win all the races this season. Looking at their performance this season, it is starting to sound more and more possible along the way. Meanwhile, Helmut Marko is satisfied that he shut the critics down.
