Helmut Marko and Sergio Perez
Helmut Marko, the Red Bull team adviser, has dismissed the recent rumors surrounding Sergio Perez. It was made known that the Milton-Keynes-based team is looking to sack Perez next year, but with his recent comments, the Austrian has ended all the fuss. He has labeled Perez as a vital cog in the Red Bull setup.
Helmut Marko, while shedding light on the Sergio Perez rumors with racingnews365.com, said, “Sergio’s place has never been in jeopardy and will never be in jeopardy. He is an important element in achieving the goals we have set for this year. We want to finish first and second in the Drivers’ Championship and become Constructors’ World Champion as quickly as possible.”
The 80-year-old has made it clear that Red Bull has its full faith in the abilities of Sergio Perez and sees him as an incredibly important member of the reigning F1 World Champions. All the rumors regarding Perez’s place on the team stemmed after he recently had a couple of disappointing outings.
Sergio Perez bashed his RB19 into the wall during the Monaco GP qualifying, and at last week’s Spanish GP, he could not make it beyond Q2 during the qualifying session. All such things contributed to the 33-year-old’s exit rumors. However, with Marko’s comments, the flames have been put out for good.
Helmut Marko has urged Sergio Perez to focus on his job

While Helmut Marko has revealed that Sergio Perez’s place at Red Bull is not under any kind of threat, he has admitted that he has advised the latter to focus on his driving exploits. “After his rather weak performances in Miami and Monaco, I just reminded Sergio that he should concentrate on his job. There, he didn’t take advantage of the possibilities that were in him.”
“In the team with Max, he has an opponent who is very difficult to beat. And not just from him, but from all the drivers on the grid at the moment. He should therefore concentrate on himself and not try desperately to beat Max. He should be there when things aren’t going optimally for Max. Sergio’s good race after the failed qualifying session in Barcelona was again the first step in the right direction.”
Marko feels Sergio Perez has a huge challenge at Red Bull with the reigning World Champion, Max Verstappen as his teammate. As things stand, the former has scored two wins compared to the latter’s 5. The Canadian GP is next up on the F1 calendar, and considering everything, how do you see the Mexican performing at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve?
