Sergio Perez has gone through a string of disappointing results in the last few rounds of the F1 season. The British GP seemed to be one such race for the Mexican driver after he failed to make it out of Q1 in Qualifying. However, Red Bull Consultant Dr. Helmut Marko has expressed his confidence in Checo after the race at Silverstone.
Perez started from the back of the grid in the race. But the 33-year-old made up the pecking order courtesy of the mighty RB-19. Marko pointed out that Sergio Perez was setting the pace in the latter stages of the Grand Prix as the Mexican finished P6. He is quoted by Motorsports.com saying, “In the last ten laps he was the fastest driver in the field, and he was on softs.”
Helmut Marko was relieved to see Perez stay in front of Fernando Alonso‘s Aston Martin in the race. Moreover, the Red Bull consultant clarified that as long as Checo can provide solid race results, Milton Keynes will not replace the Mexican driver. He continued, “Thank God he finished ahead of Alonso and extended his lead. That’s our goal. His position is not in danger at all.”

Can Sergio Perez bounce back after five underwhelming races?
Red Bull has undoubtedly the fastest car on the grid. Yet, Sergio Perez has only made it to the Top 10 in Qualifying in four out of the ten races. On the other hand, Max Verstappen has clinched seven pole positions. Perez has completed a streak of five races without getting into Q3, which has severely hampered his prospects at Milton Keynes.
The Mexican driver does make progress in the races after setbacks on Saturday. Unfortunately, Perez has failed to even come close to Max Verstappen in recent races. As such, Sergio Perez will need to turn things around before the summer break to prove his talent to critics who argue that someone like Daniel Ricciardo could do a better job instead.
Thus, Sergio Perez has managed to stay clear of the risk of losing his F1 drive. Helmut Marko seemed satisfied with Checo’s race performance despite only scoring 12 points. Although needless to say, Perez will need to get rid of his Qualifying struggles to ensure that he continues to race for what is the fastest team on the grid for now.
