Red Bull’s ruthless dominance in 2023 has left other teams scrambling to catch up. The team’s latest weapon in their quest for supremacy is a massive upgrade introduced at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s Motorsport Advisor, shed light on their plans for the RB19, hinting at even more substantial improvements coming soon.
The upgrades introduced at the Hungarian Grand Prix are a technical marvel. The sidepod revisions are striking, featuring a downward-sloping lip and a shorter entry. These changes are designed to influence airflow dynamics and enhance engine cooling.
Red Bull has also reshaped the radiator inlet, making it shallower and wider. This innovation aims to optimize airflow, create an enhanced undercut for improved aerodynamics, and increase air pressure for more efficient engine cooling. It’s a holistic approach to extracting every ounce of performance from the RB19.
Speaking to OE24, Helmut Marko addressed Toto Wolff‘s concerns about Mercedes’ competitiveness. Marko clarified that the update before the Spa Grand Prix was not a game-changer, stating, “He means the update before the Grand Prix in Spa [Hungary], but it wasn’t all that massive. Our next one is in Singapore.” This revelation hints at even more substantial upgrades in the pipeline.
Red Bull won the last two races by over 30 seconds of margin to their nearest competitors
At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Red Bull showcased their dominance, clinching victory with a significant lead over rivals. However, they missed the pole position, which went to Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. While the team has compromised its qualifying setup, it ultimately gave them an edge in the race. Red Bull carried this momentum to Spa as well, where Max Verstappen sliced through the pack despite a 5-place grid drop and won by over 28 seconds.
Mercedes and other teams have struggled to catch up with Red Bull’s relentless pace. The German team while in second place, is still longing to beat Red Bull and Max this season. Other teams like Ferrari and Aston Martin have tried challenging them too, but are nowhere near them. The three teams are locked in a fight for the runner-up spot in the standings.
Marko’s comments about the upcoming upgrades in Singapore suggest that Red Bull is not content with their current dominance. They are poised to raise the bar even higher, ensuring that their pursuit of excellence knows no bounds. As the Dutch GP weekend falls upon us, it remains to be seen whether any team can challenge Red Bull and their dominance.
