Here are the three potential candidates to replace Fernando Alonso in Alpine

BWT and Alpine join forces in a strategic partnership aimed at sustainability drive

Fernando Alonso decided to leave Alpine at the end of the 2022 season. This move was successful after Sebastian Vettel decided to stop with the sport after this season. This decision made by the 4-time world champion emptied a seat in Aston Martin, which the 2-time world champion didn’t think twice to grab.

But now after a multi-year deal signed with the British team, there is a single seat vacant to catch up on in the Alpine. Here are potential candidates who could replace Fernando for the 2023 season and ahead.

Oscar Piastri isn’t a new name when it comes out for someone to call a youth talent. He has been under Alpine’s supervision for a good time now. Being the Reserve driver for the team already, he should be the first name on the list of possible successors to Alonso’s seat.

Oscar was the 2021 F2 champion and still doesn’t find himself a seat in Formula 1. This is blamed on drivers too old on the grid holding on to their seats. Young generation talents cant show their skills on track with no seat for them to fill. Vettel’s retirement will now start a chain of vacant seats to be filled by the new-gen drivers.

Mick Schumacher is another young talent, currently driving for Haas in his second year in Formula 1. He scored his first points recently but Haas is still somewhere near the bottom with not many possibilities to move to the top. On the other hand, Alpine are a solid mid-field team, having the chance to finish on points regularly.

Mick will be looking ahead with his career and should make a move to Alpine. The French team fights under the top 10 and sometimes even for the podium. Schumacher could showcase his skills by moving from a bottom marker to deep mid-field and then on the top. Currently Alpine are fighting for the fourth position, they have made clear differences in recent years and are expected to be on top real soon.

Nico Hulkenberg could also replace Alonso and retain his seat in Formula 1 after staying out for three seasons. Nico already has had his chance in Alpine, then Renault, but was left no choice but to leave after the 2019 season. Alonso’s move could be a game changer for the 34-year-old to grab the seat and fight in Formula 1 yet another time.

With Esteban Ocon already having a seat in Alpine, it will make sense to have another young driver. That will set up a long game for the upcoming years as the team looks to fight for the top in the coming years.
