“He’s going to push us in every area of the team,” Fernando Alonso’s arrival has made Aston Martin more confident about achieving their goals
Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso and Renault shared a brilliant partnership where the two managed to bag multiple world championships while they were working together. The Spaniard later moved onto Ferrari in order to win the championship for the Scuderia but failed to do so after many close but unsuccessful attenpts. Soon, their relationship came to an end where the Spaniard moved to McLaren.
The aim was to uplift the team but their mechanical issues prevented the team from moving forward. After a glorious and challenging F1 career, Fernando Alonso retired from the sport after 2018, only to make a comeback in 2021 with Renault who had rebrand to Alpine. With the 2 time world champion reunited with his championship winning outfit, the two went on to build the team up and were fairly successful in doing so.
However, after 2022, with his age kept in mind and young drivers waiting for a chance, Fernando Alonso was only offered a one year contract extension by Alpine which he rejected. On the other hand, Aston Martin saw his potential and managed to bring him over to their team in order to achieve their goals of becoming a top team one day. A man with Nando’s experience will always come in handy.
Aston Martin Performance Director highlights Fernando Alonso’s importance
In a conversation with Formula1.com , here is what Aston Martin Performance Director Tom McCullough had to say about the Spaniard. I’m still getting to know Fernando. “I’ll tell you one thing: he’s a very motivated and competitive character – you can see that from the outside. I’m starting to see that a little bit when I talk to him,” he said.
“He is focused solely on doing well. He sees a good future with our team. He sees the journey we’re on. [We’re] really happy to have him on board our team. He’s going to push us in every area of the team,” McCullough continued.
Fernando Alonso has the set of skills and experience required to lead a team and Aston Martin has made it clear that the British Squad is prepared to listen to the Spaniard’s every demand. With the team’s new HQ being constructed, the squad is going to be bigger and better. With Alonso becoming a part of the team, the future of Aston Martin is looking very bright.
