“I am devastated” Lewis Hamilton mourns the death of legendary driver and friend Ken Block after his sudden demise

Lewis Hamilton took to instagram to mourn the sudden passing of legendary rally driver and friend, Ken Block. The American motorsport icon tragically lost his life during a snowmobile accident on Monday in Utah, aged 55. In his statement, Hamilton recounted the pair’s first professional collaboration and highlighted Block’s positivity. Notably, the pair appeared together in a Top Gear Festival in Barbados.
Block was a professional rally driver with the Hoonigan Racing Division, he made his rallying debut in 2005 and gained a huge following when he started uploading Gymkhana videos of himself stunt driving. After selling ownership of his company DC Shoes, Block shifted his business focus to Hoonigan Industries, producing apparel for auto enthusiasts.
Hamilton also remembered the time he went heli-skiing and snowboarding with Block in Canada and also shared a never seen before picture of the pair. The Brit also extended his thoughts and prayers to Block’s family. It was truly a devasting day for motorsport. The Rally legend passed away on the same day as Michael Schumacher’s birthday.
Lewis Hamilton’s heartfelt farewell to Ken Block
“Today i received news of the loss of a dear friend. I am devastated to hear of Ken Block’s passing. He was such an amazing person, always lived life to the fullest.” Said Hamilton in his instagram story. “I remember our first time working together and how positive he was. So much talent behind the wheel.”
“Years ago we had an amazing time heli-skiing and snowboarding in Canada. We held so much respect for one another. He will truly be missed and my thoughts and prayers go to his beautiful family.” Lewis shared a picture from the pair’s winter holiday in Canada. In the picture, Block can be seen smiling with his arms wide open in front of a snow covered back drop.
Block’s sudden demise has surely left a major hole in the motorsport family but at such moments it is important to not remain sorrowful over the passing but instead celebrate the life and achievements of a modern day legend. He will always be remembered for the impact that he has left on the motorsport world.
