The recent news in the Formula 1 world have been all about the “Team Principal silly season” as it seems that most of the leaders of the various F1 teams are changing sides and going to different squads ahead of the upcoming 2023 season. Keeping in stride with the trend, McLaren Team Principal Andreas Seidl announced that he will be ending his long-drawn association with the Woking-based outfit to move to Sauber as their CEO.

While Seidl’s resignation from his Team Principal role at McLaren came as a massive surprise to the F1 followers, the British team’s Boss Zak Brown seemed quite unfazed by it. Within a few hours of Andreas Seidl announcing his shift to Sauber, McLaren let it be known that they were promoting their own Executive Director Andrea Stella as the Team Principal. Stella has been associated with Ferrari previously, and has extensive knowledge in various aspects of motorsports. Thus, it is expected that he will be successful in steering McLaren towards great results in 2023.

Speaking of Andreas Seidl’s exit, Zak Brown made it clear that he was aware of the offers that Seidl has received, and he also said Seidl kept him updated about whether he would choose to leave McLaren or not. Thus, the decisions happened smoothly, and Brown thinks not much will change within the team despite such an abrupt alteration in leadership.

Zak Brown reveals that he has offered Andrea Stella all his support while settling into the new Team Principal role

Andrea Stella has previously served under different teams to various capacities, but never as a Team Principal. While some of the onlookers might have doubts regarding the Italian’s abilities to lead such a big team as McLaren, Zak Brown has completely put his faith on Stella. Speaking about the changes fans might expect in the team in 2023, Brown said, “I don’t think there will be tremendous amount of change. I will certainly lean in more where Andrea would like my support. I think we will find good ways of working together.

Compared to McLaren’s results in the previous few seasons, it is true that the team saw a decline in the scores this year. But with the new Team Principal at the helm of the British team, the constant support of Zak Brown, and the stellar line-up of Lando Norris and the soon-to-be F1 debutant Oscar Piastri, McLaren seems to be all set to go back to their winning ways.
