“I have some ideas about what could be different”: Sebastian Vettel talks about the changes he would like to see in Ferrari
Sebastian Vettel
Sebastian Vettel has had a long and successful career in Formula 1, having spent 15 years as a regular driver for several teams, amongst which Red Bull and Ferrari are the most prominent ones. The German has scored four back-to-back World Championship titles during his stint at Red Bull, and in 2015, he had moved to Ferrari, looking to follow his mentor Michael Schumacher’s footsteps. While in the Scuderia, he hoped to find a few more Championship wins, but that was not the case for the now 35-year-old.
Despite being the most successful F1 team, the last time Ferrari had seen the face of a Constructors’ Championship title was in 2008 and the last time any racer from the Maranello outfit had gotten the WDC title was in 2007, when Kimi Raikkonen got his top spot against tough competition. Thus, it has been over a decade since Ferrari has been at the top of the grid, and Sebastian Vettel believes there are some fundamental errors which have kept the team from winning titles so far.

Now that Ferrari’s Team Principal Mattia Binotto has left them by resigning from his post, many names have come up as the Italian team is still looking for a replacement for Binotto. Some of the potential names that are doing the rounds in the F1 community include Alfa Romeo chief Frederick Vasseur, and former Ferrari racer Sebastian Vettel. And this has brought up a conversation that Seb participated in, only a few weeks ago, where he said he would like to see some changes in Ferrari.
Sebastian Vettel does not divulge any information about what he would do differently as the Chief of Ferrari
While sitting down for a conversation with L’Equipe after retiring from Formula 1 at the end of the 2022 Championship season, Sebastian Vettel talked about what he believes had gone wrong with his former team Ferrari as they failed to win the World Championship even after being touted the initial favorites. He said, “I have some ideas about what could be different in that team, but I keep them to myself. What you see from the outside is just an interpretation of what is really going on. We don’t have the whole story.”
Since Sebastian Vettel’s name has been mentioned as one of the potential candidates who might replace Mattia Binotto as the Team Principal of Ferrari, the remarks that Seb had made in the interview about the changes he would like to see in the Maranello outfit deserves some importance. Now, it is expected that the announcement regarding who might take the top spot in Ferrari will come out in a few days’ time and it remains to be seen if Seb lands the job and implements the changes that he has in mind.
