“I think he has many more years in him,” Toto Wolff certain Lewis Hamilton will stay in F1 for a long time just like the prolific Fernando Alonso

Toto Wolff, the Mercedes Team Principal, ahead of the Mexican GP has indicated that, just like Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton can also extend his time in F1.
Lewis Hamilton, in September, made it known that he has every intention of continuing at the pinnacle of motor racing and extending his contract that is set to expire at the end of the 2023 campaign.
The prolific Brit will be 38 years old by then, and a multi-year deal would mean Hamilton racing during his 40s, something he previously indicated he would prefer not to.
However, despite all the noise around the former 7-time F1 World Champions career, Toto Wolff has backed his man and shown faith by indicating that Hamilton can also do what Alpine’s Fernando Alonso is currently doing.
While stressing about it, he added, “You can see today’s athletes are pushing the boundaries in terms of age.”
“For me, Fernando is performing at a very high level. And you look at, for me, the best athlete in the world, Tom Brady, he’s on the feet actually, he’s being tackled and throwing a ball and he’s 43 years old.“
“So as long as you continue to look after yourself and develop your cognitive senses, I think he has many more years in him and I’m pretty certain that’s going to be the case here in the team.”
Toto Wolff’s take on offering Lewis Hamilton a new deal at Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton last signed a contract extension with the Brackley-based team back in July 2021, around which discussions started during the winter break of the previous year.
Toto Wolff is planning to use the same route again and while talking about it, added, “We haven’t started any talks, we want to definitely finish the season and then try to find some quiet time over the winter like we have done last time around. That literally started in the winter holidays and then lasted over two months. But we haven’t done that.”
“But as I say, he’s much more than a driver to us now. Although we are not talking about a career end, it’s also important to speak about his role as an ambassador for Mercedes and the many sponsors we have and the implication he can have in our wider universe.”
Toto Wolff, who owns one-third of the Mercedes F1 team and made it clear Hamilton has no competition for his drive: “It’s 100% his seat.”
Considering the Mercedes boss has made it quite clear that Lewis Hamilton can have his seat at Mercedes for as long as he wants, how long do you think the new contract of the Brit is going to be, will he be seen racing in F1 during his 40s?
