As the only American racing team in Formula 1, the fans might expect a queue of sponsors outside the doors of the Haas F1 Team since most of the top business moguls hail from across the pond. But according to Haas’ Team Principal Guenther Steiner, the picture is not exactly so. The 57-year-old sat down with RACER’s Chris Medland, a few days after it was announced that MoneyGram is going to sponsor Haas from the next season onwards, and he gave a picture of the monetary scenario at his team headquarters.

Judging from the performance that Haas has put up in this current 2023 F1 season, it is true that they have seen considerable increase in their points. But the team is constantly bounded by their limited funding, due to a lack of some good sponsors. The deal that Haas has now signed with MoneyGram has finally gotten the team a partner that they had been looking for since a long time. As per the reports, MoneyGram will be giving Haas enough money for the team to reach F1’s new $135 million-dollar cost cap.

But it is not that Haas’ emails are overflowing with messages from prospective sponsors everyday. Even then, Guenther Steiner expects the team to attract newer investors now that they have locked the deal with MoneyGram.

In an article for the RACER, curiously titles as ‘The Guenther Effect’, Chris Medland describes Haas to be “embracing America” soon after signing the contract with MoneyGram. To cash in on their new deal with a brand from the US, the American team even did “photoshoots in saloon bars” and adorned their livery with the American Stars and Stripes on the livery. All this points towards the fact that the team wants more sponsors from the US.

Guenther Steiner even mentioned this, saying, “I think there is more to come from the U.S., and hopefully, MoneyGram opened the door to other people. Interest has risen in F1 – you get all the fans, but the corporates, they don’t react instantly.” With the influx of such a large sum of money from MoneyGram, it is to be seen if Haas can put it to good use to improve their ranks in the upcoming season.
