“I want to be in control,” Max Verstappen reveals what it would take for him to participate in ‘Drive to Survive’

Max Verstappen has made it abundantly clear that he is not a fan of Netflix’s ‘Drive To Survive’. The show started documenting F1 drivers and crew for their on track and off track activities back in 2018. Whie the show was a hit amongst the fans, Max Verstappen was of the opinion that they twisted facts. Although Max changed his mind in recent times.
The 2021 World Champion has been absent from the series for a long time and not documenting Max Verstappen’s maiden championship victory is a huge loss for the production team. This is the reason why both the parties initiated talks to find a solution and come to a compromise. The talks were also encouraged by F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.
In an interview, Max Verstappen spoke about intricate details involved in his talks with Netflix. The Red Bull driver wanted more say in how he was being portrayed in the Netflix series. He wanted to know in advance as to what his interview statements will be used for and in which context.

“It needs to be more on my terms,” Max Verstappen on taking part in Drive to Survive
“All I’m asking for, you know, is that it’s just more realistic, at least from my side. I cannot control of course, what they do with other drivers, but at least I want to be in control with what I’m releasing. I understand they want me in it, but it needs to be more on my terms. Sometimes, you know, you don’t even know that there is a camera around or someone is walking behind you and they can use that,” he said.
In the end, Max Verstappen just wants the series to be honest about the lives of the drivers and members of Formula one and doesn’t want them to add unnecessary drama and fake rivalries to make the episodes spicier. Based on those terms being followed, the Dutch driver has agreed to take part in the series.
