“I want to try and win more”: Max Verstappen speaks about going for a second World Championship title in 2022
When Max Verstappen rose to Red Bull in 2016, and went on to become the youngest driver ever to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix at the age of 18 years and 228 days, everyone in the F1 paddocks knew they were witnessing the making of a legend. And five years later, in 2021, Max Verstappen in his Red Bull managed to put an end to Lewis Hamilton’s long-drawn supremacy in the turbo-hybrid era of Formula 1 by grabbing the F1 2021 World Championship title.
Now, at 24 years old, Max Verstappen is the winner of one World Championship, and he only wants more. Currently running second in the WDC Standings behind title rival Charles Leclerc, Max knows he has lost out on some precious Championship points in the first few races of this year due to the reliability issues with his Red Bull RB-18.
Till now, 5 races have happened in this season of Formula 1, and Max has either retired from, or won the Grand Prix’s. Such a record has never been seen in Formula 1 ever before, and Max knows he can regain the lead and defend his Championship title if he makes no mistakes and wins a few more points over Ferrari racer Charles Leclerc.

At only 24 years of age, Verstappen has already achieved the World Championship title at the highest league of racing, but that does not make him any less motivated to go for yet another title win in 2022. When Max started this year with his RB-18 in Bahrain, he had set his eyes upon his goal of winning his second Championship title. But unfortunately, he had to retire from the race due to reliability issues with his car.
In the race at Jeddah, he managed to grab the race win, but his race was again cut short due to issues with the car in Australia. This caused the Dutchman to lose out on many Championship points, but he vowed to make a comeback in Imola. And true to his words, he came back with an upgraded Red Bull, and got the triple crown of pole position in Qualifying, P1 in Sprint Race, and P1 in the Main Race in the Emiglia Romania Grand Prix. After that, Max continued his winning feat in the most recent Miami Grand Prix as well.
Speaking on the topic of targeting yet another World Championship title, Max Verstappen said, “It has nothing to do with confidence or because I’m world champion now, I finally feel like I belong here or whatever.”
He further said, “For me, that doesn’t matter. I’m just back and I want to try and win more. I’ve said before that by winning a championship my goal in F1 is achieved. Everything after that is a bonus.”
