“I would love to see them arm in arm,” David Coulthard finds a solution to stop the tensions between British and Dutch fans
Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton
David Coulthard former Red Bull Driver comes up with a solution to lessen the tension between Dutch and British Fans that has lately been a serious concern for the F1 to look over. There have been instances where people were racially abused and harassed for being a Lewis Hamilton fan in the Red Bull Ring stand, things were out of hand as the security was criticised by a lot of drivers lately as well.
Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are sharp rivals and had a serious fight for the title last season that has strengthened their love in the fans but has created hatred for the other one and it was clearly visible in the British and Austrian GP. First Max was booed in Silverstone after his spin on the track and the next week Lewis was booed by the Dutch fans after his crash in Q3. Things aren’t great between the drivers as well but David Coulthard wants a public display of their friendship to build a bridge between the British and Dutch fans.
“I would love to see them arm in arm and talk to the Formula 1 fan because we heard Max getting booed at Silverstone and I’m really not happy to see that in our sport. You can support whoever you want but let’s be fair, do it in a respectful way,” said David Coulthard.
David Coulthard sees the relationship not getting well coming times
David doesn’t really think the relationship between Max and Lewis will get better anytime soon and states a decent reason for it too. The age difference is a major reason that has created a barrier between the drivers leading to a toxic fan base fighting for the driver states David.
“I think it’s because of the age difference, it’s a question of generations. Lewis and Max just don’t have a connection, whereas there is one between Charles (Leclerc), Carlos ( Sainz), Lando (Norris), George (Russell) and all the drivers of this generation. Maybe the difference is not that big, 10 or 11 years or whatever it is, but in sport, it’s more than a generation, ” said David Coulthard.
The 2022 season has been different for both the drivers, when they aren’t fighting for the championship but the fans still take up the rivalry seriously. Things are better between Charles and Max as they fight for the championship this season.
