“It is a concern,” Charles Leclerc demands Ferrari to get on top of their reliability issues after Carlos Sainz’s fiery retirement in Austria

Charles Leclerc might have won the Austrian GP but believes that Ferrari needs to do better if he wants to challenge Max Verstappen till the very end. The Dutchman seemed to have had his number in the last few races but the Monegasque driver was able to get one over his arch rival. Red Bull looked the strongest going into the weekend but Ferrari turned it all around on race day.

It was a decent weekend for Ferrari but should have been the perfect weekend, if not for Carlos Sainz’s shocking retirement. Max Verstappen looked pretty fast on the hard tyres but the degradation on those set was pretty high while he was pushing to the limit. Whereas Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were able to take care of the tyres much better which allowed them to make it a 2 stop race.

Charles Leclerc overtook Max Verstappen yet again after his second pit stop and now it was Carlos Sainz’s turn to overtake the reigning world champion and make it a 1-2 for Ferrari in Red Bull’s backyard. But, when the Spaniard was a few car lengths behind Max, his engine started blowing fuel on the track and in a matter of minutes the car was on fire.

Charles Leclerc not fully satisfied despite his win at the Austrian GP

This has remained a concern for Charles Leclerc despite his win at the Red Bull Ring. Talking about the issue, he said, “Of course, it does. Obviously as a team, it is a concern with the reliability, and today shows even more that it is a concern. And we really need to look into that to make sure that it does not happen again during the season.”

He also explained his throttle issues: “It was pretty bad! Especially Turn 3 and 4, it was a disaster because the car was pushing a lot with the throttle being extremely inconsistent, so I just had to manage it.

“But at the end I got to the finish line in first position so very happy.”

Charles Leclerc understands that if they want to take the fight to Red Bull and Max Verstappen, they can’t afford to have any more DNFs and therefore has asked his team to quickly respond to the issue.
