“If you ask my wife, too many,” Alfa Romeo Technical Director speaks about how much time it took to build the C43

It was 2021 when Alfa Romeo seemed to struggle a lot with Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi driving for them, as the team pulled up to a 9th-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship. Fast forward to 2022, the team revealed an entirely new face as they took up Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu as their new recruits. In the season-opener in Bahrain, former Mercedes racer Bottas surprised all the onlookers as he flew to the sixth position in the Qualifying round, leaving behind George Russell’s Mercedes and both the McLarens as well.

Thanks to some great performances by 2022 debutant Zhou Guanyu and the seasoned driver Valtteri Bottas, Alfa Romeo jumped to P6 in the Standings last year. And stepping into the upcoming season, the team hopes to improve upon their flaws from the past and deliver an even better result with their C43 racecar. The unveiling of the car took place today, in the presence of their drivers Zhou, Valtteri Bottas and 2022 F2 vice-champion Theo Pourchaire, who is the reserve driver for Alfa Romeo. Also present during the curtain-raiser were their newly appointed Team Representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi and Technical Director Jan Monchaux.

As of now, fans have already witnessed three car launches for the 2023 season and the general consensus says Alfa Romeo’s C43 looks the best among them. But it is the performance that matters, and speaking on that aspect, the team’s Technical Director Jan Monchaux spilled some of the details during the event in Zurich.

Alfa Romeo have unveiled the complete car that they are going to race with in the upcoming Formula 1 Championship unlike the other teams that had only revealed their livery. While talking about the hard work that went into developing the C43, Jan Monchaux answered how many hours it took to build the car. He said, “If you ask my wife, too many. If you ask me, not enough [time].

On a more serious note, Jan Monchaux let his aspirations for the C43 in 2023 be known as he said, “I am very proud of what we have achieved over these last months, because creating a new car is always a massive effort from the team. I hope it’s going to be quicker than the successful car we had last year, that’s what matters most, and more reliable as well: we have put a lot of effort in this direction.

Now, seven out of the ten teams are yet to show the fans what they have in store for the upcoming 2023 season. The performance of these cars will only be judged once they are taken to the racetracks for the initial testing in Bahrain ahead of the season-opening race on March 5.
