“I’m always surprised,” Carlos Sainz reveals Ferrari concerned about Mercedes’ resurgence
Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz, the Ferrari F1 driver, has revealed that he has been massively surprised with how competitive the Brackley-based Mercedes team has been despite their struggles this year.
Carlos Sainz and Co. at the start of the season had their eyes well set on the Championship, however, as the season has progressed, the Maranello-based team has gone backward and Red Bull’s starlet, Max Verstappen is nicely poised to win his second F1 Championship.
Moreover, Ferrari’s worries have been increased by 10-folds, as in recent races, Mercedes has been able to go wheel to wheel with them and has become a big nuisance.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have racked up quite a decent number of podiums for the Silver Arrows this season, and it has helped them massively in closing the gap to Ferrari in the Constructors Championship.
The current F1 campaign is 16 rounds down, and Ferrari at the moment is only 35 points ahead of the in-form Mercedes team. The German outfit has improved massively compared to the start of the season and is steadily closing the deficit to Ferrari who is sitting nervously in P2 at the moment.

Carlos Sainz and Ferrari are on edge after witnessing Mercedes’s strong performances
Ferrari, this year, has suffered from quite a number of issues, from facing reliability problems to its drivers committing costly errors, the team has been stuck in a bad run of form and Mercedes has pounced well on such problems.
If Ferrari wants to stay ahead of the Silver Arrows in the Drivers Championship then it has to pull its socks up and start putting in stellar and consistent performances in the upcoming races.
Carlos Sainz is well aware of the threat of Mercedes and while talking about it said, “Worried is not the right word. I think we know they’re going to be there pretty much every Sunday.”
“I’m always surprised how in qualifying they can be maybe one second off sometimes and suddenly come race day your engineer comes on the radio, and they tell you the lap times of Lewis and George and it’s like sometimes they are even quicker.”
After looking at what the Spaniard has said, it is safe to assume that Ferrari is taking the Mercedes threat seriously, and in the upcoming races, it is going to be fascinating to see how they will fend off the tough challenge that Hamilton and Co. are going throw at them.
