“It’ll be the first time I’ll have a smaller team mate than me,” Nyck de Vries sounds all pumped up to start new F1 season with Yuki Tsunoda
After several years of waiting for one seat at any of the Formula 1 teams, 2019 F2 Champion Nyck De Vries has finally landed his ticket into the king class of motorsports, thanks to AlphaTauri. In the upcoming season, the 28-year-old will be seen pairing up with Japanese racer Yuki Tsunoda on a quest to get AlphaTauri to the top of their midfield range once again since last year was not at all a successful one for Red Bull’s sister team. While Red Bull did get the World Constructors’ Championship title after 12 long years, AlphaTauri descended to the very bottom of the grid where they stood only on top of Williams.
Now that there is only a month and a half left before the 2023 season kicks off with the spectacular season opener in Bahrain, Nyck De Vries is all excited and ready for his F1 debut as a regular racer. Before this, he had done a few stints to fill in for other racers in 2022, and he got his big break thanks to Alex Albon’s appendicitis. His drive at the Monaco Grand Prix impressed everyone and it alerted the executives at Red Bull regarding De Vries’ talent. And finally, they gave him the job of replacing Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri as the Frenchman is all set to move to Alpine for the new season.
Speaking on all the possibilities in Formula 1 that awaits him, Nyck De Vries sounded quite cheerful to accompany his teammate Yuki Tsunoda for AlphaTauri. He talked about how they have already bonded and are quite close even though it would be his first time driving alongside the young Japanese. De Vries even revealed that he has been Yuki’s fan for a long time and had even supported him during his single season in Formula where Yuki Tsunoda became the second runner-up.

Nyck De Vries sings praises for Yuki Tsunoda, says they have bonded already
Nyck De Vries gushed about his future teammate Yuki Tsunoda during his first interview after landing the job at AlphaTauri. Speaking on the young Japanese, he said, “When he was in Formula 2, I was one of his biggest supporters. He’s very talented and very quick. I’m sure we’ll have a great time together and I look forward to be joining him. It’ll be the first time in my career I’ll have a smaller team mate than me, but we still have the same shoe size! We did some bonding already, I think two years ago.”
Now, with a new lineup, AlphaTauri is all set to return to the Formula 1 2023 grid with a new zeal to get to the top of the midfield battle. But aiming for the same position are some of their most vicious rivals like Alpine, McLaren and Aston Martin. All these teams have had new additions to their drivers’ lineup recently and thus, it remains to be seen which one of them gets the best results once the season begins on March 7, 2023.
