‘It’s not Max Verstappen Racing, it’s Red Bull Racing’: Christian Horner says Red Bull will be impartial to both racers in 2022
Last week atthe Monaco Grand Prix, Red Bull racer Sergio Perez displayed a brilliant performance by snatching the P1 position from pole-sitter Charles Leclerc in a tumultuous and exciting race. But Sergio Perez’s teammate Max Verstappen, who is the reigning World Champion, and is also currently leading this year’s WDC Standings, could only score the third position in the race.
Max’s father, former F1 racer Jos Verstappen, analysed the Monaco Grand Prix, and was not quite happy with how it turned out for his son. While speaking in an interview about the Monaco race, he said he had expected Red Bull to back Max Verstappen for winning the Grand Prix at the principality rather than Perez, as Max is leading the Championship table as of now.
When Christian Horner was asked if he had to say anything about why Red Bull allowed Sergio Perez to win the Monaco Grand Prix while Max Verstappen got the third place, he mentioned that Red Bull is impartial to both the racers, and they do not want to focus on any one of them just because they have a better position in the World Championship standings for the time being.

Christian Horner claims Red Bull backs both the racers equally
Red Bull racer Sergio Perez ‘s Monaco Grand Prix victory has made some things a bit tricky in the team’s garage in Milton-Keynnes. While Verstappen was the clear Championship frontrunner before the Monaco GP, now, as the situation stands, both Max Verstappen as well as Sergio Perez have full chance of winning the World Championship at the end of this year.
Jos Verstappen, upset with Red Bull’s decision to let Sergio Perez take the lead in last week’s Monaco Grand Prix, said that the team should have supported Max Verstappen to get the victory as that would have helped the Dutchman’s campaign for defending his World Championship title.
While speaking with Bloomberg, Christian Horner made it clear that Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen are free to compete with each other as the team will not favor any of them over the other. He said, “At the end of the day, both drivers are team players. They are part of a team. It’s not Sergio Pérez Racing or Max Verstappen Racing, it’s Red Bull Racing.”
He further said, “They work for the team, they have a responsibility. They drive a car here designed by some 800 employees and produced for them. They are an important link in the chain, but it is important that they realize that the team’s ambition is greater than their own.”
