Lewis Hamilton is one of the all-time F1 greats. The British driver achieved incredible success with Mercedes at the start of the Turbo Hybrid era and bagged six titles with the Silver Arrows. However, the seven-time champion has fallen behind Max Verstappen and Red Bull in the last couple of years. Former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve reckons that Hamilton can win another world championship.
Villeneuve was convinced that Lewis Hamilton could still perform at his peak in the next two seasons after the Briton signed a new contract with Mercedes. The former F1 driver even pointed out that the 38-year-old was still younger than Fernando Alonso. As such, the seven-time champion needs to have the hunger to achieve more success.
The Canadian told SilverArrows.net, “He is still younger than [Fernando] Alonso. Lewis is not showing his age, it’s like Alonso. It’s all down to how hungry someone is and how one is willing to still push the envelope, the limit.” Jacques Villeneuve was asked if Hamilton’s hopes for an eighth title were futile in light of Max Verstappen’s dominance. The former F1 driver made it clear that it is still possible, similar to how Red Bull bounced back after Mercedes’s dominance.
The 52-year-old was adamant that Mercedes might manage to gain on the Milton Keynes-based team in the future. He stated, “Why would it be futile? Mercedes was so far ahead, and no one else gave up. It’s possible that Red Bull arrives at a point where they can’t evolve the car. Because they hit a wall in the development and Mercedes finds something.”

Lewis Hamilton remains winless since 2021
The seven-time champion last won a race at the 2021 Brazilian GP after a stellar driver to victory. Unfortunately, the F1 driver with the most wins in the sport’s history has failed to stand on the top step of the podium since then. Hamilton and Mercedes have proved to be no match for the dominant run of Max Verstappen and Red Bull.
However, the Silver Arrows have been working on upgrades this season. Lewis Hamilton even took pole position at the Hungarian GP this year. Yet, there is still a long way to go for the seven-time champion to end his winless run in the sport. Max Verstappen is currently on a record-breaking winning streak with a tenth consecutive victory at the Italian GP.
Thus, Jacques Villeneuve reckons that Lewis Hamilton can still win an eighth world championship. The Canadian believed that the 38-year-old needs to retain his hunger to win to succeed in F1 again. With Hamilton staying in the sport till at least 2025, the seven-time world champion might find himself with a car capable of stopping Max Verstappen’s dominance.
