Jeremy Clarkson ‘rains alcohol’ on Alpine crew after losing bet involving Esteban Ocon as he delivers 1000 beers in a tractor
Alpine workers have won a bet for Esteban Ocon's podium finish in Monaco, and Jeremy Clarkson treated them to 1000 beers for it.
It is common knowledge that working in Formula 1 guarantees a life full of traveling to exotic locations, working with the best engineers in the world, and meeting a host of famous celebrities who frequently visit the paddock. Now, there seems to be a newfound perk to enjoy if one joins Alpine as their crew member–1000 free beers! It all started with a random bet placed by none other than the famed British commentator Jeremy Clarkson who took to Twitter and challenged Alpine. And it resulted in the 63-year-old bringing a truckload of beer bottles for the men at work in Alpine.
The French squad of Alpine have not had the best of times in the first few races of 2023 with Esteban Ocon and their newest recruit Pierre Gasly. Before the Monaco GP, they were down in the sixth position on the World Championship table, even behind their chief rival McLaren although the two teams had the same scores. During the Qualifying Round for historic Grand Prix in the principality, Esteban Ocon managed to secure a P4 start. While the team was overwhelmed with the results, Clarkson was confident they would not get a podium even after Ocon’s brilliant second row start.
To spite the members of the Alpine crew, Jeremy Clarkson wrote on his Twitter, “Come on @AlpineF1Team I’ll buy you all a pint if you get a podium here.” And surprisingly, Esteban Ocon did not only manage to defend his position in Monaco against the charging Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, he even improved one place and ended his run in the third spot, this attaining the first podium win for Alpine this year. And to stick to his promise, Jeremy bought the entire squad a 1000 bottles of beer.
Jeremy Clarkson made a whole show of buying beers for the Alpine boys after Esteban Ocon’s podium
63-year-old Jeremy Clarkson, who resides near Alpine’s base in Oxfordshire, followed through on his promise of buying a point for the whole team if Ocon managed to win a podium place. Recently, he turned up at the Alpine base with a tractor loaded with 1000 beers, and handed them to the Alpine staff in person. The team posted pictures of the Briton on Twitter with the caption “Delivering on his word. Cheers for the beers!“
While Alpine’s results at the Monaco GP were excellent, the Enstone outfit could not perform to the same level in Spain. Still, the two racers from the French squad managed to end their run in the points zone, with Esteban Ocon getting a P8 finish while Pierre Gasly pulled up in the tenth spot. Now, it remains to be seen how they manage to get satisfactory scotes in the remaining races that are left in this year’s calendar.
