There have been a lot of surprises at the Mexican GP. Lando Norris‘ failure to clear Q1 in the qualifying session is major news in the paddock today. The Briton had been performing well after the mid-season break and scoring impressive results every race week. In contrast, Oscar Piastri has qualified in an impressive P7 in the qualifying.
Norris was called into the pits for unknown reasons, and he lost time in the session. Additionally, The Briton claimed that something was not right with the car, but this wasn’t the primary reason for the early exit of the Briton. Lando Norris took the blame for his errors in the session.

For some reason they told me to go into the pits, but the rhythm was good. Obviously something was not right, but that was not a problem. I just made some mistakes in the only lap I had
Norris told Sky Sports F1
Fernando Alonso spun out in the first qualifying session, and as a result, this yellow-flagged the session. The 23-year-old claimed that he did not take full advantage of the single lap that he had, and this caused him to qualify for P19 in the Mexico City GP.
There was a yellow flag from Fernando, so yes: that opportunity, that turn they gave me, I did not take advantage of it. It dissipated and that was it
Subsequently, Norris added that the team will discuss the session and find out the underlying issue. But the young Briton has taken full responsibility for his results and does not blame the team for this result.
Lando Norris ‘overshadowed’ by Oscar Piastri at the Mexican weekend
Oscar Piastri has been turning quite a few heads in the paddock with his amazing performance in his debut season. In the past few races, the rookie’s performance has been on par with Lando Norris. Moreover, Piastri even won the Qatar GP sprint race ahead of the 2023 world champion Max Verstappen.

The Australian made it to Q3 and qualified P7, far ahead of his British counterpart in P19. Piastri has outperformed Norris and bagged a multi-year contract with the Papaya squad following his amazing results. As such, Lando Norris might soon feel the pressure from his new teammate if he has another setback in the coming races.
It seems that luck was not on the side of Lando Norris in the Qualifying session in Mexico. McLaren’s pace has not been waning in Mexico, and spectators hope both young drivers will finish in the top 10 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit. However, it remains to be seen how Norris performs in the race on Sunday.
