The 2022 F1 regulation has made the challengers stiffer and physically taxing for the drivers. Ground effects cars’ aerodynamic drawbacks and bumping on straight roads are causing serious issues for the racers. Now, McLaren’s Lando Norris has come forward calling for car regulation changes to make racing safer for the current grid.

The frequent occurrence of aerodynamic issues raised serious health concerns during the first part of the 2022 season. In last weekend in Saudi Arabia, Carlos Sainz was forced to miss an event due to appendicitis. This also sparked a conversation as the Spaniard is the second driver since Alex Albon, was the second driver to experience the medical issue in two years. Lando Norris, while talking about the same pointed out that old cars were safer in the regard and asked F1 to make changes.

I don't know what the average [number] per person who has had it. Is it one in five? Is it one in 10? I have no idea. I'm not a doctor. [But] could it be better and was it better a few years ago with the old cars? 100 per cent.

Norris stated that he is unsure of the precise number of drivers who are having problems as a result of the 2022 regulations. But, he thinks that the earlier Formula 1 cars were superior because they had fewer issues. Furthermore, there have been accounts of drivers having health problems during competitions. Lewis Hamilton, for example has been reported to have spinal problems as a result of the car’s constant bouncing, which makes Norris’ points more valid.

Lando Norris escape F1 jump start punishment due to ‘loopholes’

Lando Norris appeared to have the edge over his competitors at the start of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Later it was found the McLaren star jumpstarted. But astonishingly, he was not penalized for it.

Besides racing could have been a little bit more difficult if he had caught penalties for an incident that happened at the beginning of the grand prix. The 24-year-old decided to cheat his way ahead of other racers by starting a fraction of a second before the lights went out in Jeddah, which typically results in an obvious penalty.

Nevertheless, FIA regulations Article 48.1a) saved Norris because it wasn’t switched on yet. Moreover, McLaren has not got off to a good start this season overall as their car is not fast enough to get into Q3’s top grid places.
