Lando Norris predicts friendship with Max Verstappen will be ‘put to test’ as McLaren set eyes on catching up to Red Bull

Max Verstappen and Lando Norris have long had an affectionate relationship. Since they were young boys, the two have liked racing each other, and their bond has developed over time. Despite their close connection, Lando Norris predicts that Max Verstappen will certainly try to outmuscle the McLaren driver went it comes to a face-off between them.
Recently, on the paddock and the pre-race press conferences, both drivers have been spotted together amid the rumours of the McLaren driver in a dialogue with Red Bull in a potential switch to Red Bull. At the post-qualifying press conference during the British GP weekend, Lando Norris shared his thoughts on Sunday’s race. Norris was adamant in his response to Connor Andrews’ question about whether the McLaren driver would put their friendship to the test at turn 1 since he qualified a close second behind Max.
Speaking on the context that Lando Norris expected at the very start of the race with his good friend, the papaya squad racer said, “I think me and Max are very good friends. I guess we’ve kind of grown up, not exactly together, we’ve never really raced against each other until Formula 1, but we’ve grown up in a similar generation, similar times and I think we’ve always got along. [But] I’m sure when my time comes, and we’re racing for wins or championships, then I’m sure it (their friendship) will get put to the test a little bit more.”
Lando Norris’ transfer to Red Bull seems well in the horizon for the young racer now
It has been a rumor for a few weeks that Red Bull have their eyes on the British driver Lando Norris to partner with Max Verstappen in near future. Previously, Norris was spotted using Red Bull merchandise given by Verstappen over the week long F1 break in June. The F1 community have connected the dots and they believe Lando’s close connection to Max will be fruitful for Red Bull should the Briton join them.
No matter his transfer rumors, Norris and Mclaren are going through a promising phase in the season. The racer got a P2 finish at his home race only a couple of weeks ago, and will be hearing for more promising results in the upcoming races. It has also been mentioned by several pundits that the only team which has the same car in term of pace and aerodynamics of the Red Bulls are now the McLarens. In the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix, Mclaren might bring the second set of upgrades while Red Bull will get some visible sidepod changes which should make their car 0.2s faster.
