McLaren is on cloud nine after their stellar qualifying result on Saturday at their home race in Silverstone. Drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri line up second and third, respectively, with Max Verstappen just pipping Lando Norris for the pole position award. Despite missing out on the pole, the McLaren team found themselves filled with delight over their season’s best qualifying result. But, the British crowd might not have viewed it as such.
Before the British GP race, the home crowd delighted with drivers parading around the track on vintage cars. Lando Norris was interviewed outside his car, and the drivers just strode behind him. As soon as the crowd saw Verstappen passing, they turned on their boo chants, and Lando came in for Max’s rescue and silenced the crowd.
“No boos, no boos. Max is a lovely guy,” the Brit said. Lando and Max’s friendship dates back to their karting days, and their camaraderie has been quite evident over the years. The duo will be sharing the front row, and this is only the second time that has ever happened in history, with the first one happening back in 2021 at the Austrian GP.
The British crowd seems to be holding a grudge over Max Verstappen since his 2021 title win

In the video, the Brit was donning his iconic bucket cap and waving at the crowd before all the boos. Lando was midway through answering his interview but stopped to silence the boos. This gesture has made it to the internet, and people showered admiration for Lando.
The British crowd has never really been fond of Max’s ever since he won the 2021 title in a controversial ending, denying Lewis Hamilton, the crowd favorite, a chance of a record-breaking eighth title. And yesterday’s pole position did not help, as the Silverstone crowd was expecting a Brit on the pole.
McLaren has come to the British GP equipped with significant upgrades. After a season-best result in Austria in the hands of Norris, the Woking outfit has also given the upgraded car to Oscar Piastri. The upgrades have paid off, as the team became the second-fastest team at the weekend. It remains to be seen what will come out of the race and whether McLaren will score a dream home podium.
