Lewis Hamilton started from the pole at the Hungarian GP. It was the 104th pole position for the 7-time world champion. The British driver mentioned the challenge in the race at the front of the grid as drivers go head-to-head to claim the race victory. Now, McLaren’s Lando Norris slammed Hamilton for these comments and gave a few words of advice to the world champion.
Norris acknowledged the remarks made by Hamilton after he claimed his second podium in a row. He said in a post-race press conference, “Yesterday [after Qualifying], Lewis complained of how tough it was finishing outside first position.” The 25-year-old believed that the 7-time world champion should try racing at the back of the grid to truly understand the way the racing is in the pecking order.
The McLaren driver further mentioned that Lewis Hamilton had never actually raced down the grid in his long and successful F1 career. Lando Norris stated, “Try racing in 19th and 20th, he’s never done that in his life. So that’s the only thing that Lewis hasn’t done in Formula 1.” As such, the 25-year-old was adamant that perhaps Hamilton would see racing at the front differently if he knew the hardships lower down the pecking order.

Lando Norris insists Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes do not have a bad F1 car in 2023
The Mercedes F1 team fell behind Aston Martin at the start of 2023. Although, major upgrades and a change in design philosophy allowed the Silver Arrows to get more out of its car in recent rounds. Lewis Hamilton even outperformed Max Verstappen to clinch the pole position at the Hungarian GP. Norris was convinced that the Brackley-based squad did have a decent car that allowed Hamilton to qualify for the pole.
The 25-year-old believed that despite comments made by the 7-time world champion, the Mercedes W14 is a capable machine with a good pace. As such, Lando Norris dismissed the claims made by the Silver Arrows over McLaren being superior this season. He explained, “I know Lewis complains a lot about how amazing our car is and how bad theirs is, but they don’t have a bad car.”
Thus, Lando Norris has not held back as he slammed Lewis Hamilton’s comments. The McLaren driver made it clear that Hamilton should try and race for the last positions in the race before complaining over race wins. Although, it remains to be seen how Hamilton reacts to the words said by his fellow countryman. As F1 heads to Spa-Francorchamps this weekend.
