Oscar Piastri has had an eventful entry into the pinnacle of motorsport. Having been a part of the Alpine Junior drivers academy, the Aussie was on the sidelines for a year. However, Piastri was suddenly announced as the team’s driver due to Fernando Alonso announced that he is leaving the team in order to join Aston Martin on a multi year contract.
Oscar Piastri was already in talks with another team and was having none of this. He furthermore went on to deny the fact that he has been hired by the Enstone based squad. McLaren announced after sometime that Oscar Piastri had joined their team to replace the outgoing Daniel Ricciardo which turned out to shock the whole paddock. Alpine on the other hand didn’t like this one bit and was willing to take both Piastri and McLaren to the court.
After fighting the case in court, Alpine lost Oscar Piastri to McLaren and that’s where his journey started with the guys in papaya. As he approaches the 2023 season, Oscar Piastri had a lot of kind words for Lando Norris who he will be partnering this season. While Lando will be entering his 5 th season in the sport, this will be Oscar’s first season in the pinnacle of motorsport.
Oscar Piastri thinks that he can form a good working relationship with Lando Norris
During the ‘In the Fast Lane podcast’, the McLaren driver had this to say about his teammate. “I think our junior careers have been quite similar. He’s obviously proven as well in F1 that he’s a very capable driver and a strong driver as well,” said Piastri. With Lando Norris being the more experienced driver, it is clear that he will be leading the team going into 2023.
Oscar further had this to say. “I’m looking forward to being able to show what I have, but also there’s undoubtedly going to be things to learn along the way, and I think Lando’s a very strong team mate to be able to learn from. I think it’ll be a good working relationship.”
With 2023 being his debut season in F1, a lot of fans are excited to see what Oscar Piastri has in store for them. Having been put up against a driver like Lando Norris isn’t the best of situations but it will truly give is an idea of how good he is as a driver. All eyes will be on McLaren in 2023 as they aim to compete with the top teams with a young and ferocious driver lineup.
