The 2021 Abu Dhabi GP is edged in the hearts of the die-hard fans of F1 forever. The shenanigans that took place during that controversial evening were not expected by anyone, even in their wildest imaginations, and David Croft, who is popularly known as the voice of F1, ardently believes that it was the most memorable moment of his commentating career.
The former 7-time F1 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, was looking on course to clinch his record-breaking eighth title. However, calamity struck when the then-Williams driver, Nicholas Latifi, put his car into the barriers and set into motion some unprecedented and highly controversial moments.
Michael Masi was in charge of running the show that night. He took some decisions that ultimately put Hamilton in a disadvantageous position and pretty much handed the title to Max Verstappen. David Croft feels despite all the shenanigans that took place that night, it was his most memorable moment.
While talking about the same on the Sky Sports F1 podcast, he recently said, “With that last lap, and everything that led to up to it, with controversy as well, and then to call someone as the World Champion. I managed to find the right words as Max crossed the line. That was an amazing sporting moment.”

Lewis Hamilton is yet to have a serious go at the F1 title since the Abu Dhabi GP

While David Croft has admitted that the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP was the best moment of his career, it was not so much of a memorable moment for Mercedes starlet Lewis Hamilton. Toto Wolff, to date, feels his star driver was robbed of the World Championship, and he recently brought that race into the limelight.
The 2021 season was when the Brackley-based team had the weaponry to go for the title, and since then, the outfit has been on a downward trajectory. Mercedes hasn’t been able to produce a competitive car under the new regulations, and this has led to the ever-increasing frustration of Hamilton.
While the ongoing campaign has also turned into a disappointment for Lewis Hamilton and Co, it is a consensus that they are going to have a car worthy of fighting for the Championship next year. They have got some of the brightest minds in their arsenal, and considering this, 2024 could prove to be Mercedes’s year.
