Max Verstappen is currently dominating Formula 1. The two-time world champion has won eight out of the first ten races this season and leads the championship by 99 points to second-placed Sergio Perez. Many reckon that Verstappen is on the same level as Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. However, former F1 driver Jaime Alguersuari reckons that the Dutch driver is in a league of his own.
Alguersuari was convinced that Verstappen remained unmatched on the grid. The Spanish driver believed that the two-time world champion didn’t need to push the car to get results as he was truly dominating the sport. He told Skysports, “No one can beat him. It has a certain flow. And he takes it easy too. He’s not even pushing. Of course, he has a very fast car.”
The 33-year-old was adamant that the likes of Hamilton and Alonso would fail to defeat Verstappen even if the three world champions were given the same car. He stated, “But I’m pretty sure if you put Lewis or Fernando or any driver in the same car they wouldn’t beat him.” Previously, Max Verstappen had defeated Lewis Hamilton to win the action-packed 2021 championship.

Alguersuari reckons Max Verstappen’s dominance will end sooner or later

The Spanish driver highlighted the fact that in the sport’s history, there have been teams enjoying a period of dominance such as Mercedes or Brawn GP. However, eventually, rivals soon catch up and topple the pecking order. This could be the case for Red Bull and Max Verstappen with the entire grid working towards matching the Milton Keynes-based team.
Jaime Alguersuari mentioned that in such a situation, the Austrian team would need two drivers who would perform at their best. The 33-year-old hinted that Milton Keynes might decide to replace Sergio Perez in the future to prepare for such a scenario. The Spaniard explained, “Red Bull’s current dominance with Max won’t last forever. You should not assume that you will continue to win… you can’t sit back. You just need two very good drivers.”
Thus, Jaime Alguersuari reaffirmed that Max Verstappen is performing in a league of his own in F1. The Dutch driver has dominated the sport ever since the ground-effect regulations were introduced in 2022. The Dutch driver has already won eight races in the first half of the season. As he looks set to win his third F1 world title in a row this season.
