Lewis Hamilton better than Michael Schumacher: F1 pundit makes shocking claim to settle debate between the 7-time World Champs
Pete Windsor has passed his verdict on who is the better driver--Lewis Hamilton or Michael Schumacher.
The debate on whether Lewis Hamilton, arguably the best F1 racer of the 2010’s, is better than Michael Schumacher, the legendary driver who stole the spotlight during the 2000s, has been going on for a long time. Lewis Hamilton has broken several records of Schumacher’s throughout his F1 career, and when he equalled the German’s 91 Grands Prix victories, it was Mick Schumacher who handed Lewis one of his father’s racing helmets at an emotional ceremony at the Eifel GP.
Since then, Lewis Hamilton has surpassed the 91-wins mark as he has won 103 Grands Prix till date. Even though the Mercedes man is not having the best of his times in Formula One right now, there is no denying the fact that Hamilton’s talent is a rare thing to come by. Thus, there have been many arguments put forward to discuss whether Hamilton is better than Michael Schumacher when it comes to racing, and F1 pundit Pete Windsor has tried to settle the debate with his ‘gut feeling’ at one of his recent interviews.
While some believe Lewis Hamilton could only amass his 4461.5 career points as opposed to Michael Schumacher’s 1566 points because of the recent changes in F1’s point system. These have allowed drivers of today gain more points than those who participated in the league two decades ago. Other fans have claimed the competition in F1 is growing with each day, and the fact that Lewis Hamilton has still managed to win seven World Championships proves that he is better than Michael Schumacher.
Pete Windsor claims Lewis Hamilton is “softer” in his approach than Michael Schumacher
Every F1 pundit has their own opinions on the Lewis Hamilton versus Michael Schumacher debate, and Pete Windsor is no different. Speaking on this, he said, “I think he [Lewis Hamilton] probably is [better than Michael Schumacher]. I think Lewis is slightly softer on inputs everywhere, I think he’s just got this very soft touch. I think Michael was slightly rougher. Both [have] incredible feel for the car; both of them have this hugely wide palette on which they can paint the picture they need for the car.“
He continued, “It’s just almost gut feeling but it’s also watching them at corners like copse or down the hill that left-hander in Nurburgring, esses at Suzuka, that feel you can get through there. So yeah I’d give it to Lewis actually.”
Even though Lewis Hamilton has already acquired legend status in Formula 1 according to many fans, his current results are not that promising. Ever since stepping into the sport in 2007, he has never had a single winless season until last year. And even now, he has failed to gain a Grand Prix victory even though 5 races have already happened in 2023.
