Lewis Hamilton has stayed at Mercedes since 2013. The British driver has remained at Brackley for over a decade and this pairing has achieved immense success in Formula 1. However, the 38-year-old’s contract expires at the end of this season with contract talks already taking place. Now, Hamilton has given another update on these negotiations with the Silver Arrows.
The seven-time world champion made it clear that he is likely to continue at the Brackley-based team. Although Hamilton highlighted that such discussions take time to bear fruit. As Toto Wolff‘s team has been talking to Hamilton’s management about the renewal. The Briton even mentioned that neither of the two parties mentioned the new contract during the month-long summer break.
Lewis Hamilton said, “I’m staying where I am. It just takes time. We just had this break, as well. In this break, no one has been thinking about it. Hopefully, it will be done soon.” The seven-time world champion was asked about the missing it’s in the renewal. Hamilton gave a brief reply and said, “I can’t tell you. Can Lewis Hamilton win his first race since 2021?

Lewis Hamilton initially struggled with F1’s ground effect cars as Mercedes fell behind Red Bull and Ferrari. The 38-year-old was winless in an F1 season for the first time in his career with his last victory coming at the 2021 Brazilian GP. In 2023, the Silver Arrows have improved with the arrival of new side pods at the Monaco GP that have helped extract more pace out of the W14.
This in turn could provide an opportunity for Hamilton to potentially stand on the top step of the podium this year. However, the British driver would have to challenge Max Verstappen in what is one of the most dominant seasons by a driver in history. As such, it would be interesting to see if the 38-year-old can emerge victorious in a race this season.
Lewis Hamilton, seven-time world champion, remains optimistic about his new contract with Mercedes and has insisted that both parties did not discuss any new deals during the break. However, Hamilton is convinced that he will soon put pen to paper to continue his stay at Brackley. Fans would be looking forward to the announcement for the same as well.
