Time and again, the Red Bull F1 team have treated their recruit Sergio Perez quite poorly and have not even tried to hide it. Since Checo is paired with the Dutch overachiever Max Verstappen, he almost always has to cope with some sky-high expectations from the team. But his fans have claimed that Red Bull always pool all their resources into helping Max while Sergio Perez is left with a car that performs less effectively than his teammate’s does. This has led Checo to suffer a string of disappointing outings in the last few weeks, leading to enormous criticism from the onlookers.
Even Red Bull’s own team members have not shied away from dragging Sergio Perez because of his performance deficit in comparison with Max Verstappen. The team’s Chief Advisor Helmut Marko even brought up Perez’s ethnicity and indicated that he always fell short of performing at par with Max because he is a Mexican. This comment welcomed huge protests from fans all over the world and Marko had to apologize publicly for his poor judgement.
Despite Marko’s attempts at clearing his image after completely blasting Sergio Perez, the fans are convinced that the Mexican is under too much pressure to perform at Red Bull. And Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton confirmed that as he spoke out against all those who criticize Checo ruthlessly, week and week.
I haven't experienced exactly something like what Sergio Perez is going through. If I heard such negative things about myself every weekend it would be very difficult. As a driver I understand the psychological and mental pressures.Lewis Hamilton was quoted by Fox Sports.
Lewis Hamilton puts Red Bull on blast for ‘not helping’ Sergio Perez during his difficult weeks
Being a Formula 1 racer requires all the mental strength a person has and then some. But what it mostly needed is a supportive team that holds the driver up even if he had a less than satisfactory outing during the race weekend. And Lewis Hamilton believes Sergio Perez does not get this from Red Bull as they are always heaping more pressure on him to perform like Max Verstappen.
Lewis Hamilton voiced his opinions on how Red Bull have not even tried to support Sergio Perez when his results have not been good enough.
I think that his team is not helping him at all. I know that Red Bull is made up of many members, but there are people who affect him psychologically and do not support him.
On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton’s own team Mercedes are not happy with his disqualification from the United States GP last weekend. Their Technical Director James Allison explained that it was a ‘disappointment’ to see the seven-time World Champion being disqualified from a race where he got the second place initially.
