Lewis Hamilton is one of the greatest drivers in F1 history. The British driver has won seven world titles over the years. Yet, Hamilton has never raced for Ferrari. As the 38-year-old never found the perfect opportunity to join Maranello. However, former F1 driver Gerhard Berger believes that Lewis might just join the Scuderia if the Mercedes woes continue.

Berger highlighted that every F1 driver dreams of racing in red at least once in their career. World champions such as Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso have also driven for the Scuderia. Gerhard said, “Every racing driver wants to drive for Ferrari at least once. And almost all the good ones have been there.”

The 63-year-old further stated how Ayrton Senna might be one of the only top drivers not to race for Ferrari as the Brazilian driver understood the lack of potential for winning at Maranello. Gerhard said, “Ayrton Senna just didn’t go to the Scuderia because he knew: I can never win there.” The Austrian driver believed that Lewis Hamilton might have the same belief. He explained, “It may be that Lewis thinks so too.”

The former Ferrari driver mentioned that if Lewis Hamilton does not get a winning car at Mercedes, the British driver might consider helping Ferrari get back to its glory days as the 38-year-old will probably not find a spot at arch-rival Red Bull. Gerhard continued, “But if he doesn’t get a competitive car at Mercedes, if he doesn’t see a place at Red Bull Racing, then he might think: I don’t want to stop just yet, I want to try Ferrari again. Maybe I can fix it.”

Moreover, Berger pointed out that loyalty doesn’t mean a thing in F1. As Lewis Hamilton might show his faith in the Silver Arrows for now, but things can change quickly at the pinnacle of motorsport. Gerhard Berger concluded, “Although Lewis constantly emphasizes that he would never leave his Mercedes family, but that means nothing in Formula 1. No one reveals the cards there!”

Thus, Gerhard Berger believes that the door is still open for Lewis Hamilton to give a shot at Ferrari. The British driver has spent over a decade at Mercedes. However, as the 38-year-old fails to get competitive machinery from the Brackley-based team, Maranello might seem like a more enticing option. Fans would certainly love to see this fairytale pairing of Hamilton and Ferrari.
