The 2022 Formula One has not been one to be proud of for the Mercedes F1 team. With the new regulations being introduced for 2022, Red Bull and Ferrari have managed to take huge leaps forward and Mercedes have somewhat fallen behind with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton trying to pick up the scraps left behind after Red Bull and Ferrari fight it out for the win in every race.

The Mercedes domination has clearly faded away, but quite surprisingly, seven time World champion Lewis Hamilton still believes that they will recover and winning the eighth title is very much a possibility for him.

In an interview with the Italian media house corriere.it Hamilton was asked if he still believes in the Eighth title. He answered yes, and then went on to explain that it was not because he just wants to break sporting records.

Of course I believe it. It is not just a question of records, of sporting titles. I want to win to carry out all the behind-the-scenes work for equality“, Hamilton explained.

Hamilton has been very outspoken about social issues all around the world and has tried to use his position and influence to fight various social evils. He continued, “F1 is no longer what it used to be: they set up garages, we raced and then we went home. Now it is a source of inspiration, it helps to form opinions. And it is in good hands thanks to a great Italian.

The great Italian being F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. Hamilton believes that Domenicali is the ‘engine of the change’ that he wants to bring about in the world with the help of Formula One. “Yes, Stefano is the engine of change. We need open people like him, he understands everything and everyone.” said Hamilton

So it is pretty evident that Hamilton hasn’t given up hope on his eighth title. He is pretty confident that Mercedes will find a way back and gain back all the ground that they have lost to Ferrari and Mercedes following the regulation changes. Whether it will be a reality or remain a dream for the British legend is yet to be seen.
