Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have been associated with the pinnacle of motor racing for several years. Both are World Champions in their own right and ahead of the upcoming Hungarian GP, Hamilton has admitted that he would be down to join forces with Alonso once again if the stars align for both drivers.
The duo were together on the same team during the 2007 sports season, where they teamed up McLaren Formula 1 team. Moreover, taking into account the caliber that Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have got as F1 drivers, it comes as no surprise that they finished that season equal on points.
While several seasons have passed since the duo was on the same team at the pinnacle of motor racing, Lewis Hamilton was recently asked whether he would be open to teaming up with the 41-year-old once again; as a response, he said, “If the stars line up, yes, I would share a team again with Fernando Alonso, but I don’t think it will happen.”
The former 7-time F1 World Champion has made it clear that while he would be 100 percent in favor of teaming up with Fernando Alonso, he does not see that as something that would be possible this late in their F1 careers. He is on point in his assessment, as both are driving for different teams at the moment, and their days in F1 are numbered.
Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are in a fight for P2 in the 2023 Drivers Championship
While Lewis Hamilton does not see himself joining forces with Alonso as a real possibility, the duo is engulfed in an intense battle during the 2023 F1 season. Max Verstappen is cruising at the front of the Drivers standings by a handsome margin, but when it comes to the second position, it is still wide open.
As things stand, it is a three-way fight between Red Bulls Sergio Perez, Aston Martins Fernando Alonso, and the Mercedes legend Lewis Hamilton. Perez has so far managed 156 points and is currently second. However, Alonso and Hamilton are not too far behind, with 137 and 121 points to their respective names.
Next up on the Formula 1 calendar is the Hungarian Grand Prix. Considering how close the trio is in the Drivers Championship, this weekend’s race is going to be extremely crucial, especially for Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton and considering how the 2023 season has so far panned out for all three drivers, who do you see coming away with the bragging rights from Hungary?
