“I think he’s done an amazing job,” Lewis Hamilton praises Max Verstappen for doing ‘everything that he had to do’

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen

Ever since the Abu Dhabi finale last season, some people believe that Lewis Hamilton has been rather conservative in his praise for Max Verstappen. Moreover, it’s often cited that Hamilton seems hesitant to use the latter’s name. But now, the Briton has put that to rest by stating that Verstappen has done ‘an amazing job’. It’s hard to argue with that.

The Dutchman now holds the record for the most wins in a season (14), and he can further extend that total. Since Imola, and even more so since the summer break, he has been the dominant force in Formula 1. As per CRASH, Hamilton said of his 2021 championship rival: “I can’t say that I’ve had time to study every aspect of what Max has done this year, but I think he’s done an amazing job.”

The Briton further praised him, adding that he’s delivered with the ‘amazing car’ Red Bull gave him: “He’s done everything that he had to do. The team provided him with an amazing car and he’s delivered pretty much every weekend. He can be proud of the job that he’s done. I know what it feels to be in a position like that.”

Max Verstappen could potentially end the season on 16 wins, which is surely going to be hard to beat for anyone in the future: “He’s got a chance to win more races, the next two races, so he could take that record that he’s now taken even further if we can’t stop him, or Ferrari can’t stop him.”

Lewis Hamilton thinks beating Ferrari will be ‘no easy feat’

In terms of performance, Mercedes started the year far, far behind Ferrari. For most of the season, they have remained behind. But something they did have on their side is consistency – and pristine reliability. In a few races, they have even supplanted Ferrari as the second-best team – Mexico and Zandvoort. All this means that the Silver Arrows are ‘only’ 40 points behind Ferrari with 2 races to go.

While it certainly isn’t impossible, beating the Italians from here is definitely a hard ask, and Lewis Hamilton thinks it will be ‘no easy feat’: “Ferrari have had an amazing car most of the year and most likely they will be back at the front this weekend. It will be no easy feat to beat them but if we did it would be a pretty amazing comeback and with that narrative it would send them into the winter knowing we mean business.”

It would definitely be a confidence booster for Mercedes if they beat out Ferrari for P2 in the Constructor’s championship, especially with how the ‘fight’ had started. It’s all to play for in the next two races, but the Germans will definitely need to go big to leapfrog the Maranello team.
