Lewis Hamilton is a Formula 1 icon. The British driver is one of the most successful drivers in the sport’s history. However, the seven-time world champion has failed to match a dominant Max Verstappen in recent years. The 38-year-old has failed to win a race since 2021, while Verstappen has gone on to have record-breaking success at Red Bull. Now, Hamilton has reaffirmed his claim about having better teammates than the Dutch driver.

Previously, Lewis Hamilton had stated that throughout his F1 career, he had faced more challenging teammates than Max Verstappen. The British driver highlighted the likes of Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, and Nico Rosberg as fierce drivers as his teammates. At the same time, the Dutch driver has been paired with drivers such as Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly, and Alex Albon.

Hamilton was asked if he still stood by his claim. Hamilton pointed out that his performances against Valtteri Bottas were not given the same attention to what is being given to Verstappen’s results against Sergio Perez. The 38-year-old reaffirmed that he still believed his comments. He said, as reported by SilverArrows.net, “Yeah, I had strong teammates. Valtteri [Bottas] was quick a lot of times.”

Max Verstappen broke Sebastian Vettel‘s record for the longest winning streak at the Italian GP. The two-time world champion won his tenth race in a row at Monza. However, the Mercedes camp has continued to dismiss the significance of such statistics recently. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff had claimed that such numbers are only for Wikipedia.

Now, Hamilton has mentioned that he ignores records in light of Verstappen’s latest accomplishment. The 38-year-old said, “I mean I don’t care about statistics in general. Good for him.” However, this remark might confuse fans as the seven-time world champion is statistically the most successful driver in F1 history.

Thus, Lewis Hamilton has made it clear that he still stands by his comments. The 38-year-old believes that he has had tougher teammates during his F1 career compared to Max Verstappen. As such, the Briton insists that his performances against his teammates were more significant than those of the two-time world champion.
