The Canadian GP saw a podium dominated by three world champions: Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso, and Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton conceded in a hard-fought battle against his long-time rival Alonso to finish in P3, securing his second consecutive podium and carrying forward positive momentum from Spain. After the race, speaking to Sky Sports, Hamilton expressed his desire to participate in a three-way title fight with those he shared the podium with.

Lewis Hamilton expressed his admiration for his rivals and how he was privileged to share the podium with them. The Briton went on to say his desire to enjoy a title fight with the duo when their cars are all at a similar level of performance. He admitted it’s a privilege to race with two championship-winning drivers in Max Verstappen and Alonso. Hamilton added that he wishes to have a three-way battle among them for the title soon.

Hamilton said, “I’m really hoping at some stage we have a more level playing field in our cars and then we’ll have much more exciting races in the future. I’m happy to be back in the mix, and I’m just hoping at some stage, we can be a bit more level so we can get back to some of the good races we had back in 2021. To have all three of us in a super-tight battle would be sick.”

After a hard-fought race in Canada, Hamilton will set his sights on the next race in Austria, where he will seek to beat Fernando Alonso to the second position he lost out on in Montreal.

Leader Max Verstappen is still a class apart from his rivals Hamilton and Alonso, as he dominated the Grand Prix to win with a nine-second lead. The RB19 is still very far ahead of the AMR23 and W14. Speaking to Sky Sports on the W14’s performance in Montreal, Hamilton has revealed the pros and cons of the race weekend.

He said, “It doesn’t feel a huge difference to the beginning of the year. There are some elements of the car that do feel different, and obviously with the upgrade. But yeah, it’s just that we just have a little bit more downforce in the car.” He has explained that apart from a marginal increase in downforce, the car doesn’t feel massively different from the start of the year.

This result has firmly established Mercedes as a podium contender yet again after a dismal few races at the start of the year. Their upgrades are on the right track, and they will seek to improve their W14 challenger as the season passes with the aspiration of beating Aston Martin and closing the gap to Red Bull for 2024.
