Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton is simply used to achieving the top spot in all the races. The Briton has never had any winless season before 2022, and he had won his first World Championship title in only his second year in Formula 1. But his campaign in the recently-concluded season has given rise to several questions regarding his performance. Lewis himself said that he is not satisfied with how he raced in 2022, and he will take whatever he learnt from the races of last year to apply those lessons in the upcoming World Championship campaign.

But the 37-year-old also said that the Championship has become quite unilateral since there are only two teams vying for the top spot, and ultimately, all the other teams are left far behind. Lewis Hamilton wants the contest between the various F1 participants to be closer and more exciting. He even named some of the middle-order teams that, he believes, have the potential to go for the top spots so that the competition becomes more interesting with all the new contenders.

In the last few years, Formula 1 has become quite mundane for the viewers as there are only three teams vying for the top spot–Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull. In fact, Ferrari’s performance saw a massive dip in 2019, and since then, the contest has only been between Red Bull and Mercedes. But in the upcoming 2023 season, Lewis Hamilton expects some budding teams to take part in the competition to come to the top of the standings.

After a disappointing finish in the 2022 season, Lewis Hamilton wants to focus on getting back to his winning ways for the upcoming Championship campaign. Speaking on this, he said, “I’d like to think that we’re going to be the ones that are competing with them and being able to beat them [Red Bull] again.”

And then Lewis Hamilton revealed that he expects some good competition from the other teams too. He said, “I really hope that Ferrari are strong in the following years. They’ve definitely had a difficult year but there’s been some strong signs, obviously. So, I hope that it’s more than a two-way battle next year. I hope there’s at least three of us. If not, surprisingly, maybe more. Like, why can’t McLaren be there? We’ll see. Or even Alpine’s been doing amazing. So, we’ll see.”

Next year, Lewis Hamilton will be aiming for his eighth record-breaking Championship win in Formula 1. The Briton could not achieve any Grand Prix victory in 2022, but next year will be his opportunity to shine and get to the top, where he prevailed for a long time until 2021.
