The 2021 Abu Dhabi GP was a night that Lewis Hamilton of all drivers would very much like to forget. The Grand Prix held at Yas Marina is hailed as one of the most controversial races that the sport has ever seen. It all started during the ending stage of the race where Nicolas Latifi’s crash brought out a late safety car which changed the whole scenario of the GP.

A controversial decision made by the race director led to the lapped cars between the two contenders being allowed to pass given Max the best possible scenario to hunt Lewis down. Max Verstappen then went on to finally pass the Hamilton down the inside as he charged his way onto his first world title. This made sure that the 7 time world champion was denied his 8th.

Peter Windsor has gone on to consider that there is a strong possibility of Mercedes making a competitive car again in the future. However, at the rate of which George Russell is fairing against Lewis Hamilton, it seems like a great possibility that Lewis won’t stand a chance. As the years go by, the Brit is also getting old and won’t be able to function on the same levels of performance as before.

Lewis Hamilton might not be able to get his 8th world title even if Mercedes becomes competitive.

Here is what F1 pundit Peter Windsor had to say for the same. “Even if Mercedes really get it together, it’s difficult to see them doing a much better job than Red Bull and, simultaneously, Ferrari doing a worse job than both of those two – and Aston Martin not coming anywhere.
So a lot’s got to happen for Lewis to be [in that position] and then to beat George Russell,”
he said.

He stated that by the time Mercedes has a title worthy car, George would already have the necessary expertise. “George would have by far enough experience by then, be quick enough and by the law of averages – things could happen to Lewis, things could happen to George – it could go George’s way. That would make what happened in Abu Dhabi ’21 look tame if that happened,” he said.

Lewis Hamilton had lost the 2016 world title to teammate Nico Rosberg. With how things are looking right now, it would be difficult to picture a scenario where Lewis is still able to actively be a part of a title fight. His first goal would be to outperform his teammate who has out qualified him for the first three rounds of the season. Things are looking bleak but there is still a bit of hope for Lewis Hamilton.
