It is almost time for the season finale of the Formula 1 2022 Championship, but all the stench from the drama of the Brazilian GP weekend has not yet gone away. Fans in the Formula 1 community are still busy talking about the Max Verstappen went against the team orders from his Red Bull engineer and refused to yield his position to Sergio Perez, who is badly in need of every point that he can get because of his ongoing fight with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for the second spot in the Championship standings.
In a recent interview, Max Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen, a contemporary of Michael Schumacher, was asked to weigh in with his opinions on what happened at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Jos had been victorious in one of the Grands Prix while he was a regular racer, and thus, he has always been quite involved in Max Verstappen’s career. And according to the Dutchman, Max Verstappen was unjustifiably portrayed as the bad guy in Brazil.
During the course of the conversation with The Limburger, Jos Verstappen even said that Max Verstappen is quite a “sweet” and considerate person compared to how Jos was during his racing career. Max’s winning attitude does require him to be unyielding at times, and that is why he could not give the grid position to Sergio Perez. Thus, Verstappen Sr. believes there is no need to villainize Max for his conduct in Sao Paulo.
Jos Verstappen passes his verdict on whether the F1 community correctly judged Max Verstappen for his conduct in Brazil

Jos Verstappen has been instrumental in Max reaching his career heights in Formula 1. Thus, when it came to all the flack that the Dutchman received for his conduct towards teammate Sergio Perez at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Jos said, “Max was portrayed as the bogeyman, while that is unjustified. But we’re not going to talk about Brazil all the time, are we?”
It is the end of the season now as the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is round the corner, and it is fair for Jos Verstappen to not talk about the incidents of the Brazilian race anymore. Max has already been crowned the winner for this year’s Championship, so the Dutchman will not be under the mountain of pressure that he had to deal with in 2021 when he walked into Abu Dhabi with a massive fight to win against Lewis Hamilton.
