Max Verstappen brushes off Lewis Hamilton comparison as he boldly claims he has ‘nothing to prove’
Max Verstappen has claimed he has gotten nothing to prove in a fight against Lewis Hamilton with equal machinery.
It is a different season with many new drivers on the grid but still the same old circuit where an epic battle for the Formula 1 Championship title went down two years ago. As the racers get ready to take on the grand finale of the 2023 season in Abu Dhabi, all that the F1 fans seem to be talking about is what happened at this exact place in 2021. Throughout the entire year, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton had displayed almost equal prowess in their respective Red Bull and Mercedes machines. Thus, it all boiled down to one big showdown at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, where Max emerged as the new F1 title holder.
Ever since the fateful 2021 Championship, lots of conversations have been held in F1 town about Max Verstappen‘s comparison with Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time World Champion is still considered by many to have lost out on the 2021 title win due to the incompetent rulings of the then Race Director Michael Masi. But Lewis has not had the opportunity to get back at his Dutch rival for the 2021 defeat since Mercedes have simply failed to deliver him a Championship-winning car.
As of now, Lewis Hamilton’s performance as a Silver Arrows racer has declined so much that the last time he won a Grand Prix was two years ago. But he recently pulled off 15 spectacular overtakes ta the Las Vegas GP which proves that he has still gotten his skills in him. So, the onus is now on Mercedes to provide Lewis with a car that is equal to Max Verstappen’s. Or, if Lewis moves to Red Bull, as has been the rumor in Formula 1 world these days, then he will have equal machinery as the Dutch lion’s. Thus, when questioned whether he has the ability to defeat Lewis in equal machinery, Max Verstappen had a bold answer.
What do I need to prove? I've got nothing to prove, I think.Max Verstappen said during an interview ahead of the Abu Dhabi GP.
Max Verstappen claims fans will defend Lewis Hamilton in their fight in equal machinery
Max Verstappen has now gotten three World Championship wins with a brilliant dominance over the rest of his rivals thanks to Red Bull’s ‘rocketship’–the RB-19. But if he gets to face Lewis Hamilton in the same machinery, several fans wonder if the 26-year-old’s skills would be able to trump the 7-time World Champion’s experience. Max commented that such a fight would never happen, and even if it did, Lewis Hamilton‘s age might be his biggest defense in case he loses to the Dutchman.
There will always be excuses if one driver is faster than the other. Like "Yeah, but he's too old now" and that kind of stuff. They [fans] always come up with something.
In other news, Christian Horner has completely done a 180° turn on his statement regarding Lewis Hamilton approaching Red Bull for a seat at the current Championship-winning team. On the other hand, Helmut Marko backed Horner’s previous statement and he even revealed some details like Lewis proposing to drive under Red Bull only if he is given equal machinery as Max Verstappen.
