Being in an authoritative position in a sport as complex as Formula 1 can have its own ups and downs. Not everyone can be made happy with the ruling, but the authority always has to make sure that the regulations are set with everyone’s best interests in mind. The FIA has always had some conflicts with the drivers because some of their rules seemed to be too harsh or pointless for the racers, and now Max Verstappen has spoken out about some flaws with a few regulations stated by the FIA.

The reigning World Champion has said that he finds the FIA to be a bit stubborn in their decisions and he believes they do not listen to the drivers and stick to their own beliefs even though it is the racers who have to go out on the tracks at every Grand Prix. In the Austrian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen, along with his fellow podium winners Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were all handed with penalties for parc ferme breaches.

Ever since then, there has been growing discontent amongst the drivers against the FIA, headed by Joint Directors Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas. Now, Max Verstappen has criticized the F1 authority openly, and has demanded they pay more attention to what the drivers want.

In last week’s Austrian Grand Prix, all the three podium winners were given penalties, and even George Russell had to serve a time penalty for his first-lap collision at Turn 4 with Sergio Perez. The Mercedes racer thought the ruling was too “harsh”, and other than that, there were 43 complaints for track violations in the same race. With such rampant penalties being handed to the racers, many of them have voiced concerns against the FIA, and now, Max Verstappen has joined the conversation.

While speaking on the topic of where the FIA was going wrong with all their rules, Max Verstappen said, “I think it’s more about working with the drivers instead of just keeping your stance and just being stubborn. We want to make it better for everyone and it’s not like we’re fighting for ourselves.”

He continued, “Of course, everyone has their own opinions about certain things. Then the other thing is racing incidents and stuff. Yeah, for sure we can do better. I think we will work on it we’ll try to make it better.
