As the Singapore Grand Prix approaches, teams and drivers gear up to tackle the unique challenges the tack put forward. Defending Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen has shared insights on how he plans to cope with the intense heat and humidity during the weekend.

In the 2023 Formula One season, Max Verstappen had a dominant season, achieving ten consecutive victories and securing a 145-point lead over teammate Sergio Perez in the Drivers’ Championship standings. While the Red Bull RB18  played a significant role in Verstappen’s success, his ability to avoid errors was important in maximizing his car’s potential.

Ahead of the Singapore GP, Max Verstappen acknowledged the challenges of racing in hot weather conditions, particularly the discomfort of feeling consistently warm and coping with constant sweating trapped inside the racing suit.

Just hydrate well, not dehydrate, but hydrate well….. Well, you just lose weight. Then the negative is that it’s just quite uncomfortable driving. Like you always feel just very warm, and you have to get used to just sweating, and it can’t really go anywhere, it’s just in your suit, and so you have to just get comfortable with that,” Max Verstappen said ahead of Singapore GP.

In the 2021 Formula 1 season, Max Verstappen secured his first championship, denying Lewis Hamilton his eighth championship title. Since then, the championship-leading teams, Red Bull and Mercedes, have strained relationships.

During the FIA press conference in Singapore on Thursday, Verstappen slammed Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff’s comment about dismissing his record of 10 consecutive victories, referring to it as something only worthy of Wikipedia. He said, “I’m not disappointed in that, but they had a pretty s*** race so probably he was still pissed off with their performance.”

Max Verstappen acknowledged the dominance of a particular Mercedes at the time, finding it highly impressive. He also noted that this motivated his team to put in extra effort, strive for improvement, and aim to reach that level. Now that they’ve achieved that level of performance, he expressed their satisfaction and enjoyment of the moment.

I think it’s just important that you focus on your own……I think you[Toto Wolff] should be able to appreciate when a team is doing really well, which I think we’ve done in the past because it also worked as a kind of inspiration,” concluded Max Verstappen.
