Max Verstappen has commented on the disappointing performance of his teammate Sergio Perez at the British GP Qualifying Round.

Max Verstappen indicates his doubts about Sergio Perez’s talent after Q1 exit at Silverstone, reckons ‘you usually get to Q3’ with the RB-19

The stark differences between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have never been as highlighted as they are now. The two Red Bull teammates had been at each other’s necks going into the Miami GP when Sergio Perez was only 6 points behind Max Verstappen. While flying to Florida, the Mexican knew the World Championship would be in his grabs if he could deliver a good performance and defeat Max. During the Qualifying, Checo secured pole position while Max was back in P9. Still, the Main Race saw the Dutchman overtake a frustrated Perez as the gap between them grew to 14 points.

Since then, Sergio Perez has never seemed to be able to match Max Verstappen’s level. He had vowed on several occasions that he was still focused on winning the F1 Drivers’ title by outperforming Red Bull’s golden boy. Yet, the current situation highlights the fact that Max Verstappen is well on his way towards a World Championship hattrick as Checo is not even close to challenging him. As of now, there is a whopping 81-point-gap between Max and Sergio with 9 races having already been held for this year’s F1 season.

And Sergio Perez looks like he has even more misfortune lined up for him as he was eliminated in Q1 at the British GP Quali. The fact that all the fans and pundits found quite baffling is that Perez has the same RB-19 as Max Verstappen–yet, he scored a 15th place start at Silverstone while Max got the pole position. Speaking on this, the Dutchman said, “Of course I don’t know why things went wrong today. But with our car you normally have to get into Q3.”

As the points difference between the Red Bull duo look set to make a full century, fans expected Sergio Perez to give his best efforts at the British GP. It has already been said that the historic Silverstone circuit allows for some great overtakes because of the high-speed track–but despite these predictions, Sergio Perez got kicked out of the Qualifying for the British GP in Q1 itself. Thus, while Max Verstappen secured pole position and will be starting at the lead, his teammate will be starting from P15 in the same car.

While Sergio Perez’s Q1 exit proved to be the biggest surprise for the fans yesterday, there were some other outcomes that were equally shocking. At the track where Lewis Hamilton has won eight times already, he could only get P7 in the Qualifying. And Fernando Alonso, who had vowed after the Spanish GP that that was his last race without a podium, barely made it into top 10. Meanwhile, it was a marvelous outing for the McLaren squad as both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri got top 3 starts to the team’s home race.
