Max Verstappen and Gianpiero Lambiase go way back. When the Dutch phenomenon first joined Red Bull Racing, he was paired with Gianpiero Lambiase who became his race engineer. Ever since them, the two have enjoyed massive success in the pinnacle of motorsport with Max already becoming a world champion twice. However, there will always be a few disagreements here and there and such is the case with this duo too.

During the 2023 Spanish GP a few weeks back, there was a bunch of intriguing chatter between Max Verstappen and Gianpiero Lambiase on the team radio. This happened mainly during the ending stages of the grand prix where the Red Bull driver had a comfortable lead over P2 finisher Lewis Hamilton. Lambaise informed Max during the ending stages that he had gotten three strikes for track limits.

Another strike would lead to a time penalty. Max still went on to ask GP (Gianpiero Lambiase) about the fastest lap which he went on to achieve despite several warnings from his race engineer. GP later went on the radio again to say, “okay, now can you bring it home within the white lines? Thank you.” Max Verstappen went on to get all 26 points that race. He further talked about his relationship with his race engineer.

In an interview, here is what the Red Bull driver had to say. “Oh yes [we disagree], a lot. But that’s also part of the kind of marriage we’re in. I think it’s good because he always tries to get the best out of me and I try to get the best out of him,” he said. “And at the end of the day you make a lot of calls together. Of course also with more people involved. “At the end of the day when it goes to the set-up of the car, it’s between us. And you have to trust each other. Sometimes you might disagree but that’s important sometimes,” he stated.

Max Verstappen and Gianpiero Lambiase have shared a lot of success till now. With the 2 time F1 champ’s contract going on till 2028, there is still a lot to be done. In the past 8 races that have taken place in the 2023 F1 season, Max has gone on to win 6 of them while teammate Sergio Perez has gone on to win 2. Red Bull seems to have completely dominated this season so far. It will be interesting to see if anyone can catch up to them in the next few races.
