Max Verstappen won his sixth straight pole of the season in the British Grand Prix. The two times F1 world champion out-classed McLaren’s Lando Norris’ impressive last lap run to claim the front row start. Max Verstappen scored the pole despite Red Bull changing his front wing following a pitlane incident. It was the first such mistake from the Dutchman this season.
His progression from q2 was under threat when he collided with the pit-lane wall. While the defending champion made the perfect comeback, his Mexican teammate Sergio Perez wasn’t lucky enough. He missed out on Q3 for the fifth straight F1 race weekend. His last Q3 appearance was in Miami.
In his post-qualifying interview, the Red Bull driver admitted it was a crazy experience for him in all three sessions. He added that he was surprised to see two McLaren taking the remaining spots in the top-3 with him.
“It’s been quite a crazy qualifying. Also quite slippery in some places, and we did our laps. In Q3, I was quite surprised to see them [McLaren] there. It’s great for McLaren to be here, and of course, I am happy to be on pole,” Verstappen said.
Ahead of the race, Motorsports legend Juan Pablo Montoya predicted that the Verstappen would shut his critics up by winning all the reaming races of the 2023 season. He has taken the first step in making that prediction a reality. The only way any driver could beat Verstappen on the pole is by crashing out or the RB19 having a mechanical issue.

At the start of Q3, both Mercedes cars hurried out into the circuit to put their laps in; George Russell was on the pole, which was later taken up by his teammate Lewis Hamilton. The seven times world champion spun to the gravel on q3 before recovering to secure a P7 at the end of the proceedings.
The Ferrari drivers, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, had an eventful day. The latter was quick to vent his frustration about the former via a sarcastic radio message and was not impressed by his teammate. Leclerc even accused Sainz of sabotaging his flying lap preparations.
Seven drivers fighting for the pole in the Q3 with the likes of Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Last year’s British GP winner Sainz and his teammate, the McLaren Duo, and Verstappen himself. While the pole sitter has not changed, fans enjoyed the impressive battle among the mid-field teams at Silverstone.
